Twitch Affiliate Onboarding Guide: Case Study and Revision

In my analysis of the Twitch Affiliate Onboarding Guide, I recognized its organized structure and clarity but saw opportunities for enhancement. In my revision, I streamline the content, bolster inclusivity for international users, and adopt a tone more resonant with Twitch's dynamic user base.

For this project, I decided to analyze and iterate upon the Twitch Affiliate Onboarding Guide.

First, I analyzed the document’s strengths.

#1: Organized and Structured: The document is neatly organized into sections and subsections, which makes it easy to follow. It includes an overview, a step-by-step guide, and a FAQ section.

#2: Direct and Clear: The instructions are straightforward and easy to understand, with minimal use of jargon. The steps are numbered and sequenced in a logical order.

#3: Links and References: The document includes helpful links and references to additional resources such as the Amazon Tax Information Interview Guide.

Then, I targeted a few Areas for Improvement.

#1: Repetitive Warnings: The document repeats several times that Twitch Support is not equipped to help with interpreting contracts or filling out certain forms. While it's important to make this clear, the repetition may make the guide seem unnecessarily daunting to users.

#2: Localization: The guide could potentially improve its inclusivity by offering guidance or additional resources for non-US Affiliates. While it mentions international streamers, it doesn't provide any specific information or links for them.

#3: Tone: The document has a fairly neutral tone, which is common in technical documentation. However, considering Twitch's user base of streamers and gamers, a more informal, engaging tone could make the document more relatable and less intimidating.

And finally, I wrote a new version based on my initial assessment.

In my version, I emphasized a tone more attuned to Twitch’s young and vibrant audience. With the inclusion of an addendum about international tax assistance and reduced repetition, the document not only maintains its structure but also elevates its approachability and readability.

This technical guide is 1 of 7 pieces of documentation I completed on my way to earning my Technical Writer Certification from Technical Writer HQ. To view the project in its entirety, tap the button below.
